In WordPress terms, a template is a page layout that’s available within a theme. WordPress defines two types of templates:
- Single – Defining the layout for a single page or post
- Archive – Used to display a series of similar pages in summary format, much like an index
Templates exist for both pages and posts and there are at least 2 for each type of content.
- Page single
- Page Archive
- Post Single
- Post Archive
Templates ship in themes and help provide a uniform look and feel for the website.
